The Yangtze River
The Yangtze River is the longest and most significant river in China, and the third-longest river in the world. Stretching over 6,300km the river serves as a crucial transportation route, supporting a large portion of China's domestic trade, as well as a playing a key role in Chinese culture and history. Many ancient Chinese civilizations developed along its banks, which is reflected in folklore, art and literature.
Of particular modern significance is the Three Gorges Dam, one of the world's largest hydroelectric power stations, situated on the Yangtze River in Hubei Province.
