Language (Colombia)
The official national language spoken in Colombia is Spanish, although it is spoken with regional accents and expressions that may sound different depending on where you travel in the country.
Colombian Spanish is often considered one of the clearest forms of Spanish in Latin America. Locals are known for their friendly and polite manner of speaking, and you may hear common expressions such as "Quiubo?" (What's up?) and "Qué chévere!" (How cool!).
In some of the main cities and tourist areas, English is spoken. Please see the Spanish & Portuguese Phrasebook for a list of common words and phrases that might be useful to learn before your trip to Colombia.
