Currency (Turkmenistan)
The official currency in Turkmenistan is the Turkmen Manat (TMT). Bank notes come in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 500 . Coins come in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 tenge and also in 1, 2 Manats.

Please Note:
- Turkmenistan's economy is primarily cash-based. Credit cards and traveller's cheques are only accepted at major hotels.
- All foreign currency will need to be declared on arrival and departure.
- Ensure banknotes are in good condition before exchanging or accepting. Only use authorised foreign exchange providers.
- USD can be readily exchanged. Exchange any unspent local currency before you leave. You may not be able to exchange local currency outside Turkmenistan.
