Currency (Tajikistan)
Though US dollars and Euros are widely accepted, the official currency in Tajikistan is the Tajik Somoni (TJS). Bank notes come in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500. Coins come in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 Diram and also in 1, 3 & 5 SM.
Here is a reference table of approximate exchange rates (for up-to-date exchange rates, please check xe.com before you travel).
1 unit of currency | TJS |
AU$1 | 6.86 |
NZ$1 | 6.19 |
US$1 | 11.01 |
Correct as of December 2024
Please Note:
- The Tajik economy is largely cash-based and very few places accept credit cards.
- A foreign currency declaration form must be completed on arrival and keep a copy for yourself. You cannot leave with more foreign currency than you arrive with. Immigration officers will check your declaration form when you leave.
- You can't exchange US banknotes issued before 1996.
- Ensure banknotes are in good condition before exchanging or accepting. Only use authorised foreign exchange providers.
